What to see …

The Domaine de Monteils is located in the middle of a very attractive region,

renowned for its fantastic historical heritage, spectacular landscapes,

Spectacular natural landscapes

Cevennes National Park: Just a step from the Domain de Monteils, this paradise for the walkers with chestnut groves, hidden valleys and sources, proposes idyllic walking itineraries.

Camargue lakes: Legendary wild white horses, uncountable pink flamingos and birds... Take part of a photographic safari or participate to the local typical feasts.

Mediterranean secret sandy beaches: Only 25 km from the Domaine de Monteils, extend the endless sandy beaches of the Languedoc. Let us indicate you the wildest places.

Historical towns & villages

Nîmes: Roman city well known for its arenas and "ferias", and also "la maison carrée", the gardens of la Fontaine and the new covered market created by Philip Stark. The nearby town of Arles is also well worth a visit for its arenas and antique theatre.

Montpellier: Coup de Coeur ! Very lively university town, capital of the region. The historical center of the city is pedestrian. It counts many mansions from the 17th century, narrow paved streets, and charming shops, places and squares around the "Place de la Comédie".

Avignon: The City was residence of the pope in the 14th century. Many monuments inside the remparts: the pope's palace, the "Pont St Bénézet" bridge, the "place de l'Horloge" and its theaters...

Charming medieval villages

Uzès: First french duchy, this little town of arts with paved streets, mansions from the 17th century and many antique shops is a real jewel ! Visit the Fenestrelle medieval tower, la "place aux herbes" and its provençal market.

Aigues-Mortes: The remparts of this medieval town are surrounded by the salt lakes of the Camargue, home of thousands of flamingos.

Sauve: Authentic beautiful village with a few artists shops, walk through its alleys to the ruins of the castle at the top of the village, starting point of a beautiful walk “la mer des rochers”.

… A number of picturesque villages reflect the south French “art de vivre”, and count many art and craft shops, like in Sommières, Vézenobres, Pézenas, Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie, l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue...

 

Discoveries

Le Pont du Gard: Tremendous work of art classified by the UNESCO as world heritage, this renowned aqueduct is the most impressive bridge built in the Roman Empire.

Anduze: Its traditional factories produce world renowned glazed vases.
☞Amazing giant Bamboo's forest not to be missed.
From Anduze starts a steam train ride across the Cévennes with outstanding views.
